Over(it)all

I dread summer. I hate the heat. I hate the humidity. I hate mosquitoes. I hate when my perfectly silk pressed edges stand no chance at being great as soon as I step outside. A little dramatic?! Maybe. If it could be fall all year, I'd be the happiest girl in the world. I'm a denim all year kind of girl and thanks to the effortlessly charming touch they bring to an outfit, overalls are still a year-round staple I can't get enough of. When the temperature rises, deciding what to wear them with can be a bit of a head-scratcher. Trying look cute but not break a sweat while doing has been a challenge I face each summer since moving back to Georgia. There's also the conflict of wanting to match the effortless vibe overalls provide while avoiding looking sloppy, all of which is so much easier said than done! When I posted this outfit on instagram, I got so many "only you could rock a pair of overalls like that" DMs.  Conquering this style battle doesn't have to be a headache. There are so many ways to make your overalls look appropriate for a variety of occasions this summer that will ensure you look more like the cool fashion girl you really are without feeling like a 10 year old again.

If you like the look of overalls (I realize they're not for everyone)—overalls are more approachable than you think. I'm not going to lie, finding the RIGHT pair is kind of tough. Most of the overalls I tried were on the low waist side, making the straps feel too much like suspenders, holding my jeans up. It was important to me that the overalls truly sit at the waist, like a belted waist dress would. Once I found the right fit, I've been able to wear these for all sorts of occasions. They tend to swing casual, but I love that I can also dress them up, often by adding something as simple as a block heel (get ready for a future post). In my opinion, overalls work particularly well with an interesting top, which is why this particular look was so much fun for me. Summer isn't summer without flowy sleeves and off the shoulder flair and I couldn't resist indulging in both. Even with something as busy as my top was, I felt both simple and  put together because overalls speak for themselves. Looking forward to sharing other ways I style these.

Thanks for Stopping By!
