SNEAKY: Maxi Skirt Meets the Classic Sneaker!

My Ensemble Love board on Pinterest is still growing but it is a true representation of the way I hope my wardrobe matures. My infatuation with street style has served as a never ending source of stylespiration (yes, another fashion term I made completely up lol) and is somewhat my vision board of sorts that sets the tone of how I dress during any given year.

With comfort being my highest priority as of late, it's hard to not throw on a classic sneaker, dressed up or down, to get me through running errands and whatever else is on my to-do list for the day. I must admit, as much as I appreciate the comfort of a great maxi and my favorite go-to sneakers, pairing them together turned out to be quite the task for me. In trying to figure out how to make why my ensembles featuring the two never seemed street style worthy, I've learned that the art of the humble sneaker is actually two-fold: to provide a sleek, sporty edge whilst simultaneously acting as a streamlined and above all comfortable anchor to my everyday ensemble. As casual or as luxe as it may be, luckily for me,  they don't come at the expense of style. In fact, they now define it, invading runways and magazine spreads all over the world.

The  classic sneaker instantly ups the cool factor of skirts and dresses. Midi skirts lose their prim factor and cocktail dresses drop the fancy factor when when paired with sneaks. If silk maxi dresses aren’t your jam (and trust me, I totally get it), you can get the same vibe with a maxi dress in a casual fabric.  Because of the length, maxi dresses are inherently dramatic, so almost any would work.  My advice?  Find a casual maxi with some sort of glam element:  amazing color,  extra-flowy skirt, dramatic back, pleated – be picky.  The goal is to find something YOU love, something that makes you swoon.

I cannot overstate the benefit of a drool-worthy maxi and sneaker combo. A chic ankle-grazing skirt is universally flattering and allows you to show off your covetable shoes......
