Spring in Atlanta. It's cold, it’s 84 degrees, it's rainy—the weather flip flops so much this time of year that it makes it impossible to know if you need a scarf and gloves or sandals before stepping outside. I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the smoother transitions between the seasons that I experienced living in North Carolina but after six years of living back in Georgia, I've finally come to grips with the weekly, sometimes daily, weather changes and try to maximize my wardrobe accordingly. With the weather so unpredictable, exactly how do you navigate this transitional season with style and grace?
If you're anything like me, and by like me I mean the brisk cold of winter isn't your favorite, you've been basking in the warmth of your favorite cashmere sweaters, hoodies and sweatshirts for months now and are thrilled at the thought of feeling the actual sun on our skin. Luckily for us, before we immediately disqualify your big chunky pieces and toss them into the “see ya next winter” pile, we now have an excuse to pull out our favorite pairs of ripped denim or pair them over a lightweight chiffon maxi skirt or culottes. The result will be simple and chic, and when paired with the right accessories you've got yourself the perfect transitional outfit. One of my favorite ways slowly brighten my wardrobe is by wearing denim with a lighter, brighter wash. They are the perfect match for pastels, neutrals and florals and are a timeless wardrobe staple all year.
If there’s ever a perfect time for ankle strap heels it's now. It’s the perfect shoe to keep your toes warm by way of the sun and are light enough to keep your feet happy that they are out of boots for a while. Open-toe heels are also a fantastic way to show off that new pedicure you can't wait to flaunt as you sport spring polish for the next few months!
Just like the tress are presented with the opportunity to blossom into something beautiful each spring, we are presented with that same opportunity. As you find creative ways to make the best out of transitioning your wardorbe, don't be afraid of letting old things, habits, relationships or anything else that may be stunting your grow GO! Over the course of the next few weeks, it is my sincere prayer that you Spring forward in the grace and mercy of our loving heavenly Father and blossom until some beautiful things come to life during the remainder of your 2017. Just be sure to stop and smell the roses along the way!
